like i absolutely picked up on messages like that in things i watched as a kid and that didn’t end well for me so maybe there should’ve been more emphasis on him like actually doing the work.
and also it really pushes this idea, especially acknowledging this audience is young girls, that you can “fix” a person no matter how fucking horribly they treat you and that’s DANGEROUS okay. bc the original ending does this thing where the symbol of his reformation is the fundamental core of his being changing and that’s just. particularly getting rid of that really fucking ridiculous ending where dark heart becomes a “real boy” like noooo this guy’s an eldritch demon he’s not just gonna BECOME a real mortal boy ESPECIALLY not one with blue eyes who can’t wear red eyeshadow or cool evil outfits anymore!!! i think it would’ve been a better ending if he learned to redirect his energy to be like, an ally or something to the care bears who sees the actually terrible things in the world, realizes there’s good people in the world to fight for and like uses his own reformation and past as a way to get through to people who like really fucking suck past the point of care bear intervention. Wish i could rewrite the care bears movie sequel to make the ending less god awful.
